Question about brake/brake pad?

Hi, I have a 2006 honda civic LX. About two month ago, I found that whenever I step/push the brake, there would be some noises coming out from the car. I was thinking it might be time for me to change the brake pads as my car has now 85000 miles on it. (And I know that when the brake pads are worn seriously, there will be some noise coming out) However, after neglecting the noise for a few weeks, I now only hear the noise once a long while...so I am not sure wt's going on and what I should do. If the brake pads are really worn out, shouldn't that noise coutinue until I replace the brake pads?

Btw, if in case I do need to change the brake pads, do I also need to change the disc or re-surface the disc? how about rotor?...I am not good at car and I totally have no idea whatelse would need to repair/replace together with the brake pads.

Any opinion would be appreciated. thanksQuestion about brake/brake pad?The occasional squeaking your hearing is usually caused from what's called %26quot;Glaze%26quot; on your rotors. It squeaks because of the material your pads are made of becomes embedded in the rotors over time. Usually the squeak will be heard when the pads haven't heated up yet and/or under light brake application. The cure would be to either live with it until you actually do need the pads changed, or change them now. Honda rotors can be machined but the labor to do so costs almost as much as the price of a new rotor these days. You don't have to go to a dealer to have the brake work done, although if you do Honda dealerships do use the best parts for your car. You can take your car to a privately owned shop that uses quality pads and rotors and get the same job done and at a lot cheaper price. Ask family or friends who services their cars for them and you should be able to find an experienced, hopefully honest shop. Good luck and hope this helps.Question about brake/brake pad?Maybe a very dry bushingQuestion about brake/brake pad?Your life is riding on these brakes. From your question, it's obvious that you need to take the car to a qualified repair shop. Brakes are not a job for a %26quot;first-timer%26quot;.Question about brake/brake pad?If you are %26quot;not good at car%26quot;, you need to get it to a reputable brake shop for an inspection. Don't put your life and that of those who ride with you at risk by attempting a job you are not qualified to do.Question about brake/brake pad?Pull the wheels from the car and find out if the pads are worn, this car will have a squeal tab on each wheel, so you should know if they are worn. Also, before you take the wheel off, see if you can wiggle it, it should have very little to no wiggle.

If you need new pads ALWAYS resurface the rotor or you will be defeating the purpose and it will squeal like a madman. On this civic, try to use only ceramic or semi-metallic pads, NEVER organic (they tend to do very poorly and don't last long). Hope this helps you.

How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?

Do you think charging my sister-in-law $40.00 for changing her back brakes is a bad price? She bought the pads herself and thought that $40 bucks was too high. Did anyone ever get their brakes done at a service station? How much were you charged, just a rough estimate please!!!How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?Well, I wouldn't have a problem charging a relative to do their breaks. It takes time, and it's a skill that not everybody has, and to do everything for free isn't realistic sometimes unless they are doing you favors in return that are worth the hassle. I love my relatives and family, but I don't have time to give away either.

I would feel $20 each side is very reasonable. I know that to do the front pads and rotors, shops charge $300 and the parts are only $100. They make a KILL, and if your relative is complaining about $40 labor, then they need to go to the shop and find out what they would be paying normally. They probably feel it's too high, because they don't know what the shops charge.

Charging your relative doesn't mean that you don't love them. I cannot do everything for free either. I understand that time is money, and if it's saving my relative a lot of money, then I'm doing them a favor by only charging a little to do the job.How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?I would just do it for a lunch or something back brakes are harder then the front if u use a vice to push down the caliper rather than bleeding the brakes. How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?when will you learn never to work on relative car//you cant win//if something messes up you will hear it forever//always tell relatives you are too busy//dont sell them a car either..god forbid somethjing goes wrong and you dont fix it for free 3 years later//cars and relatives dont mixHow much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?I don't charge relatives for minor repairs, with major repairs i will ask for a similar worth favor or charge $10/hr.

One hour to change some pads/shoes is nothing for the fam.

Ken's family must suck, It doesn't matter to me, if the family member tries to hold something done as a favor against me in the future, i would(and have) just write them off. I have a petty cousin, and an uncle from another side who have lost any type of family hook-up. Seriously, it's family, we help each other. (incidentally the cousins wife and the uncles son will now bring their cars, and they still get fixed, but i won't deal with them directly)How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?Yes it is high for a relative. You should be doing it for free. I do.

    I'm happy if I get a six-pack for it.

The last time I had a shop do mine it was $60au. There's no way I'd pay a relative $40 , especially if I'd already bought the pads. Do you even have the tools to check disc runout, or to machine the discs? Or are you just doing the old 'change the pads'?

If all you are doing is changing pads, you should definetly doing it for free! How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?that,s not a bad price ! that,s $20.00 a side. sounds like you gave her a break. i change my own brakes but i bet the garage would be charging more then $ 40.00. i don,t like to work on relatives cars. if something turns out the way they think it should,nt then i would,nt hear the last of it.How much should I charge to change the brakes on an car for a relative?I'm going to have to say that $40.00 isn't bad figure, but it's seems your sister in-law is either out of touch on what the avg. hourly rate is at a repair shop or just doesn't have the extra cash.

So if you know that her money is tight, then you do it for free or exchange for something like lunch or dinner on her.

Basically I never put a figure on auto repair for family, I just let them pay what they think is fair, for the most part my family over pays. because they know that I'm hooking them up at their convenience.

I think the key is to never give a figure up front, just let them offer compensation, maybe it nothing or maybe it's double. If nothing at least you know that they will owe you one when your in need. It' what family do for one another.

If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?

my brake light has been coming on and someone told me its because i havent replaced the brake pads since i had the car (about a year now) but i didnt know i was suppose to ....

so if you dont change them will it make the light come on and how much does it cost to get it doneIf you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?The answer is no - that light will come on if your emergency brake is on - in some cases it will come on if there is a malfunction

Brake pads have a metal tab that is designed to scrap or squeel on the brake rotor/drum when the pad is low - so the first thing you do is listen for any scraping sounds when you apply the brakes - second, the steering wheel should not pull right or left when braking - this is also a sign that the pads should be looked at ------finally - you should have them looked at - at regular intervals - every car is different , but the owner's manual will tell you when to have them inspected - most pads only last 33k -50k miles - they do not last a lifetime - that is a warranty where they are betting that you wont be holding onto the car all that longIf you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?hey dear, you have to keep an eye on those brakes, especially if you do alot of stop and go driving, but by brakes being down low shouldnt make the light come on. what does is, a leak in the wheel cylinders, your master cylinder is out of fluid or a line leaking. i would check the brake fluid first, you might be almost out.If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?ABSOLUTE NO! There is a break relay that needs to fix. When you do change the shoes make sure you change the rotors at the same time, I know it cost more but do it. And if they say you need calipers 99% of the time you don't. You can always go in the garage to show you what they are talking about. If they say you can't go back then start going somewhere else. GOOD LUCK!If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?I am not sure about newer cars but, bad brakes does not cause the brake light to come on. This could be caused by low brake fluid in the master cylinder. If this is the case, simply add brake fluid.

Some cars have problems with the hand brake or, emergency brake. It may be sticking and in need of adjustment. This may be causing the brake light to come on.

You do have to change your brake pads occasionally. But, there will be an indication of this when it happens. Also, if your State has State inspections, they will tell you when your pads need to be changed. If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?when your brake pads need to be changed, they will make a screeching chirp sound. they have metal scrapers set at a cetain level, and when the pad wears out enough, the sensors hit the rotor, to make the annoying sound. If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?My light in the dash doesn't come on~ I always know when I need brake pads because you can FEEL and HEAR it!

It sounds terrible and grinds! Good LUck

If your not having those problems I would think your brake fluid is low!If you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?sure thing any time you have a light come on its a sign that your about to have a problem and you need to stop what ever you thing is more important and check for what ever light you have yes the light means your about out of brakes or fluid so stop driving it and check it .... the long you drive with a light on be it what ever your doing nothing but costing you more money to repair the parts..... call three places you can find in phone book and ask them about a brake job and how much it will cost .... and cheaper is not always the best go with the pplace that has been in business the longest time cause they know.... has for the price any where a round 99 buck and up depend on how bad they are wored or what damage you have done in driving it after the light come on.... brakes are what stop you think about it dont you like knowing when you come up to that light is that you have brake and are going to stop no brake is a bad thing and you dont want to know that feelingIf you need new brake shoes or pads will it make your brake light come on?if you mean the light on the inside dash that will come on when the break fluid is low. check that also it would be a good time to check the brake pads as well.

How effective is brake squeal spray?

I replaced the rear brake pads on my car not too long ago with some inexpensive pads. The brakes didn't squeal before i changed the pads but they do now and i attribute this to the cheap pads. Will brake squeal spray be a good inexpensive temporary fix?How effective is brake squeal spray?just spray them out with water all it does is remove the dust but they will probably squeal again and this in not the cheap pads it normally happens when you don't reseal the little this piece of metal that distributes to pressure of the caliper to the pad and it wiggles causing your squealHow effective is brake squeal spray?I've never seen any spray that is anything other than a cleaner or solvent. I wouldn't spray anything on the brakes. It may work for a little while, but how often are you going to remove your drums to gain access? A better solution would be to remove the shoes one more time and have a machine shop cut either a few shallow chamfered groves across each brake shoe, or one long chamfered groove along ( the long way) each shoe. Not too deep or the shoe may cause problems by falling apart. A good shop knows how to do this. Don't buy junk. For the price of 2 cans of that stupid spray, you could have bought a high quality shoe. How effective is brake squeal spray? The squeal is due to vibration. Are these discs? then you need to put the spray on the back of the pads, not on the surface that contacts the rotor. How effective is brake squeal spray?yeah, anti squeal is good. but you have to take the pads off again to properly put it on.

How often do you need to replace brake pads?

I purchased my car in October 2002, and it had only about 35,000 miles on it when I took it to the dealership for an oil change and was told that I needed to replace my brake pad. Since it had been about 3 years since I first purchased my car, it seemed reasonable. Then, when I got my oil changed recently, after about another 20,000 miles, I was told again that I needed to get new brake pads. I did it because I didn't want anything to happen to me or my car, but when I got to thinking about it, it seemed like I got scammed...What is reasonable and what is not? I try not to overuse my brakes- it drives me insane when the person in front of me is constantly braking- and I don't have THAT much stop and go traffic every day. I think that I got ripped off...I have a 2003 Honda Civic. How often do you need to replace brake pads?20000 miles is on the low end for replacement.. i run a repair shop for 18 yrs. .. and replacement time depend on so many variables..... driving habits, quality of replacement pads, caliper and hose conditions, rotor thickness.and type of car/truck not to mention the area in which you live....ie..IN THE MOUNTAINS, or driving up and down hills all the time.. lots of city stop and go traffic....i have customers the wear them out in 18000-60000 miles.. depending on the above. How often do you need to replace brake pads?every car is differnt and all brake pads and rotors and driving styles are different .... thats how it is somtimes just change them when you need to no matter how frustrating it may be.....brakes are nothing to mess with....if they get sqeaky...change emHow often do you need to replace brake pads?I had to change mine after 4 years. Mine would have been about 60,000 miles. How often do you need to replace brake pads?most reputable garages will always provide you with the old pads they have removed so you can have no doubt that they were actually changed. As above don't mess with your brakes they can save your life. Driving style and pad type are both factors in break wear however the pads are a lot cheaper than the discs which can be damaged by driving with worn pads. Squeals do not always mean new pads are required as this can happen when a small stome or peice of grit is picked up and lodges betwen pad and disc. Get it checked though and be guided by the experts.

ensure they are using the correct hardness of pad (manufactureres recommended) on your car as sometimes the less than reputable use cheepo pads to save money.

Be wary but be safe. ;) HHow often do you need to replace brake pads?Every lubeshop that does brake jobs get a 10 percent commision on every job they do. Mid grade level brake pads cost them $24.00 a piece and they upcharge you to $40.00 to $60.00 then spinning the rotors which is mandotory on a quality brake job is $10 per tire. Before you know it youve spent $130.00 for brakes you did'nt need so a lube tech will have $13.00 extra dollers for beer and weed at the end of the week. Best advice is WHEN THE PAD STARTS SQUEKING THEN ITS A BUILT IN WARNING SYSTEM TO CHANGE THE BRAKE PAD THEN YOU SHOULD CHANGE THEM.How often do you need to replace brake pads?I can't imagine having to replace pads every 20k unless you have a caliper that is not returning. (it will rub away the pad material even when you are not on the brakes). Pads will pass inspection as long as they are more than 3/32 thick.(.094). They may be rippiing you or you may have another problem causing excessive wear. I only put brakes on my car about every 5 years (60k - 70k miles) and it weighs over 4000lbs.How often do you need to replace brake pads?20,000 miles seems a little soon, but the quality of the pads, and your driving habits have a lot to do with it. if this happens again, ask for the old pads,so you can see how worn they are.

03 Altima 2.5s brake pad change?

im gonna get down to the point, I need to replace my wifes brake pads on her altima rear brakes, lol :( she has worn them down to the metal, and is not driving the car until i get them fixed, how do i fix them? I mean where is a good tutorial video that I can get to show me, also I dont think it would be hard because your just changing the brake pads thats it!!! And its not like its hard to get to them, my friend has replaced them before, I would just like to know what tools I need and a great video or link to show me how to do it, thanks everybody03 Altima 2.5s brake pad change?A couple of notes: If she ran the pads to the metal your rotors are ruined beyond repair Buy only American Or Canadian brake rotors. Wagner, AC Delco or EBC. Pads: Wagner Quiet stop, EBC Green Stuff, Or any top brand ceramic pad. Your right you and I could do this job in two hours. It's too simple not to do yourself. Go to the library and in The Motors, or Chilton's books mimeograph the descriptions and pictures. You need to decide if your willing to buy some good quality metric tools. A 3/8 ratchet and a strip of metric shallow sockets from Sears. You need a floor jack and jack stands.

I think you see that it would be penny wise and pound foolish to spend money for all the specialized equipment to do it your self. Hire an independent and inquire if you can bring in your chosen for-mentioned parts. With the parts and an experienced teacher It would be done quickly. Good Luck.03 Altima 2.5s brake pad change?i would say the best thing for you to do,is go to auto zone and pick up a hanes book on that car.it will explain step by step how to do the job.if she wore it down to the metal, then probably you will have either have the rotors turned or have them replaced.she should have heard the squeeler.

  • How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?

I dont have alot of knowledge about cars, and I dont want the horror of the Just Brakes Scam... I think It would just be easier, and save me money if I do it myself...

What tools do I need? Can I use a regular jack that i would use to fix a flat tire? Do I have to use grease or anything? How do I know I put them on right... Do I have a wheel drum, or disk brakes... I Know the Mechanics look for women like me, and i just want to nip it in the butt and take care of it! Please Help..I need detailed instructions! =) Thanks,How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?Go to the library and look in a good auto repair manual like Chiltons. Study the part on your car's brakes and get a good understanding of how the parts relate to each other. If you are confused after that, bite the bullet and don't try to do your brakes- go to a shop. The book will tell you what to do in normal circumstances, but there is potential for many other conditions to exist. If you still want to do the job badly enough, get together with someone who has worked onbrakes and will be eble to judge what's right and what's odd and unusual. Gremlins always prey on novices.

You need a set of metric wrenches, a jack, a pair of jack stands- or at least one jack stand and a couple of wheel chocks to keep the car from rolling while jacked up, some pliers, a brake spoon or large screwdriver. When you take the wheel off you will see a brake disk or drum. Chiltons will show you what you have. Get some fresh brake fluid to use to flush and bleed the brake lines.

There shouldn't be unusual difficulty unless the brakes are worn out and have scored a drum or disk. It's easy to lie to somebody about their brakes when they have no experience. Not every shop is staffed by liars, but it is worth being a little concerned about. You can save a couple hundred bucks doing the brakes- or wind up spending that and more if you try, then mess things up.

There's really too much to say about fixing brakes to be thorough in a forum like this. How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?To prevent buildup of condensation in the lines and subsequent corrosion, the lines should be flushed every couple of years. Brake fluid will absorb water from the atmosphere. You'll not regret having the book- knowledge is power.

How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?

I know that i can go buy a book at an auto parts store but i was just hoping that someone here could give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I wont be doing it by myself. My boyfriend is a mechanic and he's going to be helping me, but i'd really prefer to not look like a complete idiot.

and a slight secondary question: (i understand that i am being exceptionally sexist here but...) i assume most of the answerers of this question will be male, so how would you want your girlfriend to repay you for working on her car?How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?simple...jack the car up, put jack stands under and remove jack. then take off the front wheels to expose the rotors and caliper. there should be 2 bolts behind the caliper that hold it onto the bracket. take the bottom one out and swivel the caliper up and tie it to the control arm with some wire. then the pads should be exposed and you can just take them out. take out and clean everything with brake cleaner and wire brush, but wear a dust mask because the dust can be carcinogenic. to get the rotors off, take the caliper bracket off..there will be 2 bolts on the back of it. remove both and it will come off easily. then there should be 2 screws that hold the rotor onto the hub. use an impact driver, you can buy it auto zone or maybe Lowe's..(its a heavy duty screw driver that you hit with a hammer on the end and it turns out screws that are really tight without stripping the head., costs like 10 bucks)..then take both screws out and the rotor should come right off...then put new rotor on or have your old one machined and put the screws back in with the impact driver..put the caliper bracket on, then then the brake pads, but put anti squeal compound on the back of them then put them on bracket, then swivel caliper down, lube the hardware, and put ant sieze compunt on the threads of the bolts, then torque to propper specs. next you should bleed your brakes..buthat'sts not 100necessary.How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?Herte's a link for the repair info on the brakes....http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairG

If you have someone helping you then just ask what you can do to make it easier for him, it might be even throwing him wrenches (not litarally, getting the wrenches he needs if he doesent have them already) I am sure you could do that!

Good Luck!!How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?A haynes manual costs about $20 and will help you learn most any repair aspects on your vehicle.

But for now, remove wheel, take off 2 hex head or torx head bolts on inside of caliper. Caliper slides off and both pads pop out. Push piston (behind one of the pads) back in to accommodate thickness in new pads. Pop off grease cap in middle of rotor. Pull cotter pin (keeps bolt from turning) loosen bolt. Pull rotor off. Pack grease into new bearings, and reinstall with new rotor, tighten bolt and install NEW cotter pin. Slide caliper back on, tighten hex heads and install wheel.

Take bf to Applebees for dinner. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?take the tire off, remove the caliper and bracket, remove old pads and rotor, compress caliper with c-clamp or large pliers. CLEAN AND LUBE all friction areas ( where the pads touch the calipers and brackets, not on rotor however i clean and lube where the hub meets the rotor), put on new parts and reassemble. very easy for a mechanic, maybe you should just sit back and watch him this time and be sure to ask questions and make him feel like you needed him. i mean after all he is saving you a couple hundred bucks probably. as for repaying him..... wow what a concept.... uhh....how about a six pack and a cutchie coupon. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier? As for repaying the boyfriend, use your imagination !!! Best idea to start is to get some plastic gloves you can use. You will get dirty doing brakes. Remove the wheel and please remember to chock the wheels. You will see the caliper setting near the top and spray it with brake cleaner as you will be handling it a lot. Clean it good and give it a minute to dry. While waiting go under the hood and remove the top off the brake fluid reservoir. If it is just a screw cap on top then just loosen it well. The caliper that you have cleaned will have two bolts to hold them on. Remove them and pull caliper off the rotor. There is a cover in the center of the roter. Called a grease cap. Remove and there is a large nut with a cotter pin running through it. Straighten the pin and remove. Take large pliers and open them up to fit the nut. Remove the nut and the rotor will slide off. Put the new rotor on and replace the nut AND the cotter pin. If pin is old then buy a new one. Only pennies. Put the grease cap back on and you are in business. Now you will need a c-clamp to work on the new pads in the caliper. Attach clamp to the outside and the center of the brake pad. Slowly tighten the clamp and it will push old pads apart because new pads will be thicker. This is why you took the top off the fluid resivior to relieve the pressure. Replace the pads and you are ready to put the caliper back on. After alligning caliper then replace the bolts. STOP and before you do anything else replace any fluid you may need and put the cover back on the resivior. You did great and now ask the boyfriend to put the wheel back on. It's heavy and you are a girl !!! Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?

I'm a single mother who's brakes just went. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to take my car into a dealership. I'm VERY good with my hands and I don't mind getting dirty (please no smart comments). I've never dont any car repair but i have done a little research. My question is how hard will it be to change my brake pads and rotors by myself being that i've never done a car repair on my own. (I've built plenty of things around the house...) And, also any suggestions?Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?well ususally it is not too hard. depends on the vehicle. go to a local parts store and get yourelf a repair manual for your car. it will tell you step by step with pictures. usually its just a couple bolts you have to remove.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?those damn rusted nuts are hard to get off there... I've tried and I went to a garage 1 hour after. Can't take that damn top nut off.( the one holding the break pad cylinders casing ) Don't go to a dealership, any mexican can do that. Brakes would be easy to change if everything was like new... the rotors are the easy part.

try anyway, if all the nuts unscrew , you're good to go.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Changing the rotors can be a little difficult you may want someone for support but I can change break pads with my eyes closed, just find a good how to book or site.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Doing brakes is a little more difficult than say painting around the house. Your life as well as others is in jeapordy if done incorrectly. I would suggest not doing brake work if you've never worked on cars before. Try learning oil changes, airing your tires, changing your air filter etc.....I suggest if you have your own parts, find a shop that will install your parts and have them do the work. There wont be a warranty if you furnish the parts but the cost would be around 100 dollars. Either that or find a friend that has done some brake work and pay them.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?brakes are not difficult, at least I don't think so anyway, I just buy the parts and they have a repair manual at the auto parts store.

The name of the books you can get for your car is either Chilton, or Hayes, they are specific to your car, or similar models. Good LuckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?I certainly admire your determination and willingness to do your own brake work, but because you have admittedly never done any auto repairs - I would highly recommend that you don't start with a brake job. Perhaps a water pump or something similar - if you don't do it correctly, it still leaks - no big deal - but brakes? If you do this incorrectly, it could be a very big deal. Perhaps you know someone with a little experience and he or she could assist you? If not - bite the bullet and take it into a service shop.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?some tools and a c-clamp you can do it pretty quickly. AutoZone will tell you if you need specialty tools.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?youtube and expert village.com offer really good videos to tell you how to do these things . good luckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Although I would love to make some %26quot;smart%26quot; comments about your %26quot;getting dirty%26quot; remark, I'll refrain.

Changing brakepads and maybe rotors by yourself for the first time will be impossible. You will likely not do it right and cause an accident or wind up leaving your car in a condition where it cannot be brought to a mechanic.

What you need to do is have someone there with experience who has done this before.

Some cars have rotors that can be slapped on without even spinning a bolt, some require specialized tools.

You'll need the following for brake pads:

    1. new brakepads

    2. brake fluid - a bottle

    3. a large C-clamp

    4. appropriate drivers - philips head, flat head, sparx, etc

    5. A good pair of pliers.

You will need to remember to collapse the caliper and bleed the brakes. Remember to loosen that nut looking thing on the caliper to allow brake fluid to seep before you colapse it.

Once you have done this a couple of times, this becomes old hat. It becomes easy and a great way to save money.

Best of luck with this, you can do it!

Finally, I'd also like to say that it is very, very sexy when a woman changes her own brakes. Especially if she's wearing blue denim overalls that are a couple of sizes too big and a skin tight white tank top.... so... what are you doing later? heheChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?there are alot of little details that go into a good brake job as apposed to one that will shake after few weeks of driving, supporting vehicle safely ,tools and chemicals make the first time expensive after that its not to bad .as an ex mechanis i have all the stuff so it takes me about an hour and 1/2 to do it in the driveway with out air tools, if you do it wrong best case is the car is stuck in your driveway worst is you crash.find someone whos done it and buy them some beer to sit and watch/advise you.its easier to talk them into watching then kneeling on the concrete for a couple of hoursChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Just as long as you dont mind getting dirty you didnt say what kind of car it is but about the best advice I can give you is go to the parts store where you got your pads and get a repair manual for your car it has step by step instructions with pictures as far as your rotors go you probably wont need them unless they have really deep grooves in them i mean almost through to the other side deep I have seen it happen before where the pads were past the rivits but anyhow 9 times out of 10 you can just have them turned but its not a requirement and while your out you might want to get some hand cleaner your going to need it if you need any help feel free to contact me directChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?best solution. go to your local auto zone. and get some advice. you will need a big clamp, maybe about 12 - 16 inches. a Big one. for your brakes. then they will help you with the rotors. you may have to have them turned good idea to do that. auto zone guys will help you. or find a good friend to help you. its about 30 min a side for your brakes you can do it.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?EASY JOB. Get the wheels off, and unbolt the brake calipers from the spindle(if the bolts are tough get a can of PB blaster and spray'em up). you'll also wanna pick up a brake pad spreader(to push the pistons back in) then just replace the pads. once you get the calipers off the rotor will come right off, just put the new one on(make sure they're clean!) and slide the caliper w/new pads back over the rotor and bolt it back on. put the wheel back on and you're done!

BE SURE TO CHECK THE FLUID AND PUMP UP THE BRAKES BEFORE YOU TRY TO DRIVE. If they stay soft or spongy, you'll have to bleed them. you'll need help with that.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?it is a very easy job to do brake pads and rotors. all u have to do is pull the two slide bolts that hold that caliper on, and use a clamp to push the inside cylinder of the brake caliper in. then just pull of the rotor, put the new rotor on, slap the new pads in, put it back into place, and put the bolts back in. use the manual to verify the parts. it is a very very easy job and a good way to pick up mechanical knowledge.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself? Some cars require a puller of press to remove the rotors. But if you don't need this, it's easy. Just read a repair manual before you start to make sure you can do all the required work and have the proper tools on hand. It's frustrating to need to drive to the parts store when you've already taken your car apart!Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Just chipping in another word of encouragement to try doing it yourself.

The sites listed above will help. This one explains it too.

    http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/howto/a

If you have Anti-Lock Brakes you need to bleed the brakes just a little. If you're not sure if you have them look for an ABS light when you start your car. Bleeding brakes is easy but it really helps to have someone step on the brakes for you, by the way. The other way I've done it myself is to prop a stick between the brake pedal and the driver's seat and scoot the seat up until it depresses the pedal. Then you go out, loosen the valve a little to release the fluid until it doesn't shoot out very much anymore then quickly retighten it so no air gets in. Then scoot the seat back and start over again one more time if you want or do it for the other side.

Also, if you're really looking to save money don't buy the brake cleaner. Maybe it helps but I don't and all the brakes I've done have worked fine.

Consider checking to see if your local parts store can turn (polish/clean up) your rotors instead of buying new ones. It's about $7.50 vs about $40 for new.

How often do i need to change rotors for my car?

I have a 2003 mercedes. today i took my car for brake service. i only have 33000 miles on my car. all i needed was front brake pads. so the service guy now tells me that i will need front and back rotors also which amounts to over 1 thousand dollars because they say my rotors are completely worn out. I drive mostly freeways and never really brake hard or anything? could it be true? How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Your first mistake was to take your car in for brake service.

First get your car out of there. At home, jack up your car, take each wheel off and inspect the rotors. They will be right there in front of your face. Inspect your brake pads too. They should have at least 1.5mm on each side left of %26quot;meat%26quot;. Replace them if they don't. They cost around $7.50 for each wheel.

Run your hand over the rotors. They should be smooth without grooves or a high lip on the outside. A minor lip is ok. The rotors may be ventilated (have holes in them), and that's ok.

If you have grooves or a high lip, the rotor needs to be turned (resurfaced). Remove the rotor after removing the brake caliper. It will pull straight off. Take the rotor to an autoparts store and they will turn the rotor for about $10. If you have 4 bad ones, that will cost you $40. If the rotor is particularly bad, sometimes the store will not resurface them. Or maybe you can't find a place to do it. Or maybe you want to save even more money.

Take the rotor home, jack up the entire drive end of your car with both wheels off the ground. Jack each side, insert a jackstand, and then do the other side.

Put the rotor back on the spindle and secure it with the lug nuts. Don't put the wheel on yet. Start the car, put it in drive, and let the drive rotors rotate (turn) in the air. Take a belt sander and resurface the rotors as they are spinning. Wala, you saved an additional $10 per wheel. If the rotor is not from a drive wheel or the non-drive rotor will not fit the drive spindle, then you can mount the rotor on some other rotary table (like a record player) or mechanism and use the belt sander.

Sorry, but if you pay $1000 for new rotors, I will personally come over there and slap you.How often do i need to change rotors for my car?does not sound right....why can't the rotors be turned? How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Get a second opinion, it doesn't sound right. How often do i need to change rotors for my car? That guy is tring to rip you off, at the most the rotors may need turned, Take it somewhere elseHow often do i need to change rotors for my car?hes ******* with you. No way you wore out rotors in 30k unless youre doing alot of heavy racing. usually they last 100k+ miles. You can get em turned if theyre badly rutted. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Rotors don't last nearly as long as they used to because they outlawed asbestos brake pads. Asbestos brake pads used to take the wear; the semi-metallic pads and ceramic pads today wear the rotor down more. It's not entirely unbelievable that they could need new rotors. Of course, rotors for most cars cost under $50 apiece, so check the parts stores to see if you can get cheaper replacement rotors.

Also, it's likely that, although the rotors may be worn out of spec, they will work fine if you just replace the pads....problem is, the mercedes dealer won't do it, because, if the rotors are out of spec, they would be liable if anything happened, plus they couldn't warranty it. So if you can do a brake job yourself (it's really not that difficult, if you have a repair manual) just put new brake pads on and don't even worry about the rotors. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Sound like these joker are taking you to the bank. At 33k it should be your first brake change and only require rotor to be turn to give new brakes pad a fresh surface to mate on. Also, at that low mileage there should be plenty of meat(metal) to allow them to turn the rotor.

I'm a cheap person so I take my chances and just place new pad on without turning the rotors. also, i put lots of brake lube on back of pad to keep them quiet. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Have him give you a written estimate detailing every part he is going to change, and make sure he includes labor and hazardous waste removal, which he will have to charge you for, and then go get a second estimate like the other responders stated. After you get one and maybe for more proof a second estimate, contact the States Attorney for your state. This guy is definitely looking at making some quick money from you or someone. You can also look up the price of rotors by using www.advanceautoparts.com or any auto parts store. You can also contact the Mercedes dealer and see what they charge for the rotors. Most garages charge upwards of 50.00 per hour labor. I am unsure of your car, however most rotors can be changed in one hour per wheel, so figure at least 2 hours labor.

If your rotors wear out in 33,000 miles, you need to get a different vehicle. I have a 94 Ford truck that has been driven almost daily for over 3 years with my wife and I together running it over 65,000 miles and I still have not had to change the rotors. I have had the pads changed twice, but no rotors. How often do i need to change rotors for my car? There is no mileage recommendation on replacing rotors, when being serviced, they are measured with a micrometer for minimum thickness, if they are below this specification then they need to be replaced. On some domestic cars and trucks, the rotors are very thick in relation to the minimum spec and can be machined 2 or three times before replacing but I have found on Mercedes-Benz that this is not always true, and also they use a hard semi-metallic pad that wears rotors out even faster. If you are in doubt of the honesty of your mechanic, then a second opinion is helpful, and then you can ask him these questions: What is the minimum thickness? What are my rotors measuring? Can you show me? This will keep them honest. Also, if one side is worn and the other o.k., This can indicate other problems like calipers sticking or something.

  • Are Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?

I have 57k mi on my Z28. Yes, they are the Original Pads!! %26lt;:^D

    (Highway Miles, Obviously!!)

I have Noticed that Recently they feel a little Different. No Squealing yet, but the Rotors look like the Area where the Pads Normally Rub appears abit smaller.

I know I should Change the Pads here this Spring, and I know how to do it.

But, where should I go to get New Pads, that will Last as Long as the Factory Pads did?!?

I am Aware that they are Probably Ceramic Pads, but the GM Dealer charges INCREDIBLY TOO Much for me to Justify Buying from Them.

I have Changed Brake-pads for People, and have Personally found Ceramic-Pads to Last Longer on Cars. The Pads I get for People come from AutoZone.

I know that there are Expensive Brake-Pads out there that are around $100 a Set, but I am wondering if they are Worth it.

At AutoZone, the Premium-Ceramic Pads are $60 a Set for the Front.

So Ultimately, are the AutoZone Ceramic Pads as Good as what Came with my 2000 Camaro Z28?!? What do You Recommend I use in my Factory Calipers?!?Are Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?yes, the cerammic pads will last longer than your factory ones will. ive seen many with over 65,000 on them and we have a fleet of gm trucks. its all i use on them now. you'll be happy with autozones pads. i put them on both my vehicles too!! happy brakingAre Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?I would only use AC Delco pads. A possible exception would be Bendix. I know you buy stuff at Autozone, but aside from the Fel-Pro gaskets they sell, their parts have no where near the quality that AC Delco has. I would look online for your brake pads or through an independent parts house that sells AC Delco. If you end up going to the dealer, ask for 10% off. Tell them you're a loyal customer. You may pay more for the real deal, but the real deal will last longer, be quieter, provide less brake fade, and you won't have to change the pads as often. The extra money on Delco pads will be well spent.

How do I change Break Pads on Ford Cougar (01)?

My brake pad warning light is on, and I dont really want to take my car to a garage to change the pads, and as im pretty handed I figure I can do it myself - all I need is the info on how to do it without fekkin my brakes up.

Im looking at doing my front brakes, as its most likely to be them.

The manuals for the Cougar are notoriously difficult to get hold of, hence the question on here.

Any help, even if it's a web link is much appreciated. How do I change Break Pads on Ford Cougar (01)?if your good you dont need to even unbolt the caliper at all just use a c clamp and tighten it around the caliper so piston pops back DONT NEED BRAKE FLUID BECAUSE WHEN YOU POP PISTON BACK FLUID GOES BACK INTO RESEVOIR!!!

when piston is popped back just put in new pads my friend and reassemble everything else then WALAHHHHH u have brakes lolHow do I change Break Pads on Ford Cougar (01)?That's easy, first take off the rim then undo the 2 bolts behind the caliper, then pull the caliper off and remove the old pads, then compress the piston back into the caliper, insert new pads, and reassemble.

How much am I going to be charged for changing the brake pads on my 06 Focus?

I just noticed a sound on my car when I apply the brakes. Based on previous experience, it seems that the brake pads need to be changed. I'm not sure if it's one wheel or both, but I'll assume it's the two of them. My questions are, how much am I going to be charged (labor and parts) if they change them for me? Is it too difficult to do it yourself? I'm not a car expert and have never done something like changing the pads, the most I have done myself is changing the oil in my car. I wonder what places will charge me less for this service. How much am I going to be charged for changing the brake pads on my 06 Focus? The first question you are going to have to answer, is how much money you are really wanting to spend. When changing your brakes, by yourself, it is relatively cheap and depending on what quality of parks you get, can cost you between $150-250 all around, or cheaper. When going to a shop, most places will buy the parts, mark them up, then charge you labor on top of that in order to really make their money. The price can be anywhere in the ballpark of $350 all around, and upwards, again depending on quality of parts like brake pads and rotors. If you are looking into doing it yourself and saving money in the long run, I strongly suggest learning to do this yourself.

First off, what you are going to want to figure out is if both the front and rears need changing. If it has been a great deal of time since they were changed, then I would recommend doing both. And as for individual wheels, if one side goes bad, you are going to have to change both to avoid uneven stopping quality which results in a pulling of the car in one direction. An easy way to tell whether or not they need replacing is by removing the wheel, and looking into the brake caliper at the pads from the top. There is a small space in the middle of the pad that acts as a wear indicator. If this space is relatively shallow or is not even present at all, they need replacing in the near future. Also, if the brakes seem to squeal or leave an excess amount of brake dust (brownish residue) all over the wheel and car, they need replacement. If you are unsure even from looking at the top, you can certainly try to remove the caliper and inspect them more closely.

And before you try and tackle this task, remember, this will require basic tools like torque wrenches, ratchets, sockets, a jack and jackstands, etc. So before you jump into this, make sure you have the proper tools and hardware. Do basic internet seaches on disassembly of brake systems, because in all reality, it is a relatively simple task, and can save you a great deal of money in the long run. Disk brake systems are extemely simple, however if you are doing the rears and come across you have a %26quot;drum brake%26quot; system (no disc, large cylinder drum), I would highly recommend having a professional do it, as those are slightly more tricky and complicated, especially to the novice mechanic. And to be honest, when doing it yourself for the first time, you are going to run into problems, its all part of the learning experience, so don't be intimidated or frustrated with the task. If you are able to change your own oil, it is certainly just as easy when you get the hang of it.

It is definetly a worthwhile learning experience thats going to save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in labor in the long run and life of the vehicle. If you have more specific questions on actually disassembling and that sort of thing, feel free to let me know. How much am I going to be charged for changing the brake pads on my 06 Focus? The pads more than likely will cost around 30-50 depending on what type of brake pads you buy.. ceramic, metallic, organic etc. Its probably better for you to bring it to an auto mechanic.. to do it yourself.. you would need a jack or a lift to raise the car off the ground.. take off the tire by taking the lugnuts off.. then you will have to remove the caliper and the caliper bracket to rplace the pads.. but also the lugnuts and bolts you take off have to be tightened to a certain specification.. your better off going to a mechanic.. it will be alot easier.. if there are any technical high schools around where you live.. most of the time they dont charge labor and usually just pay for the parts. How much am I going to be charged for changing the brake pads on my 06 Focus? The dealership will charge you way too much. If you take it to a neighborhood shop (like one I work at) then they will charge you around $150 to replace just the front pads. As long as your rotors are still good. Don't try to do it yourself cause you don't want to mess things up and have something break while your driving. How much am I going to be charged for changing the brake pads on my 06 Focus?change both pads. you want an even wear on them. if they SOUND grindy. you damaged your rotors, change them too. if you fill a shake in your steering wheel when you brake, it is the rotors...

most shops charge like 95 and hour and up plus parts. they are also going to reem you and say these other things need changing. if they use chop sticks to work on your car dont go there. go were you can understand and they can understand the same language.

to replace the brake pads: jack your car up

    use jack stands.

    take your tire off.

now your looking at a disk looking thnig (the rotor) and on the is what they call a caliper

take of the two bolts on the caliper. you car see them if you look behind the rotor. there sould be two bolt one on top and one on bottom .

once the caliper is off dont let it hang by the hose, tie it up

pull off the old pads and then mach them up and relace them with the new ones.

you are going to need a c clamp or a tool that pushes the pistin back in to reverse the fluid. tighten it back up and you should be there.

keep in mind im not a mechanic use your mechanic book for your car from the local auto store

How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?

My front rotors are fine, but the pads are worn down to the point that

they squeak. I am wondering how you compress the pistons that put pressure on the pads to A. Get them off, and B the new pads are thicker, so you have to make room to get them back on somehow.

(I'm too cheap to have a brake job, and know I can do this myself for a lot less)How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?take the cap off the resivour take off the calipers leave the pad on the side with the piston get a large c clamp and screw it in they (the caliper pistons) dont move as easily as some would let you believe but a c-clamp is relativly inexpensive and it will workHow do you change the front disk pads on a car.?Make out you have broken down and call out the AA and they will do it for you.How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?An old tried an true method is to remove the cap to the master cylinder reservoir (where you add the brake fluid) and just press in on the calipers (the things that push on the brake pads) they should move in relatively easily. Be sure to firmly attach the reservoir cap when done. How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?My favorite tool for this job is a crowbar. Use the flat end and insert Between the caliper and the piston. Make sure you are pushing on the center of the piston and not on the rubber boot around the outer edge of the piston. Remove the cap from the master cylinder and place a clean dry rag over the opening to keep dirt and debris from falling in while it is open. gently apply pressure to the piston until it is fully seated. Replace the pads. Replace the cap on the master cylinder. Press the brake pedal firmly several times to fully seat the piston onto the pads. Replace the tires and wheels and you are done. How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?Just be sure to check your rotors for scoring (the squeel means you might be down to metal), in which case you need to have the rotors turned and a brake shop is your best bet. If you shop around someone will give you a deal. If you must do it yourself, make sure you have transpo in case the parts store gives you the wrong pads. Use good quality pads so they last a while. Use the lubricant they give you in the kit. Use a pry bar to compress the pistons and open the calipers and most important, have a couple of cold beers handy and a bud to chat with while you're wasting double the time it will take the shop to do the job. P.S. If you're married, don't let your wife watch. It will drive both of you crazy. How do you change the front disk pads on a car.?Just push the pistons in on Both front or both rear which ever side your doing, push them all the way in until they bottom, buy a caliper piston tool, I usually push them in with the old pad to avoid damaging anything.

If it's like a honda I wouldn't do it if I were you, but if its an american car it should be real easy, I would say just go down to the parts store buy New rotors and middle of the road pads, I have found if you put really cheap pads on car they don't last long. If the new rotors cost more than 35 $ I would concider getting them turned if they are not to thin. Only thing to remember is lube end of pads on slides don't lube face of pad make sure both slides that attach to caliper move freely , lube those to.

How to change rear brake pads on audi a4 -> P reg.?

my car is a old audi a4 year 1997, If you know it would be helpful , and pictures if you got step by step. How to change rear brake pads on audi a4 -%26gt; P reg.?Many Audi's have rear brakes that require a special tool to %26quot;screw in%26quot; the brake piston. This is so that the parking brake will set. You will have to ask around as to where you can acquire this tool. Sometimes, you can get away with using a large adjustable channel lock wrench. Screw the piston in until it bottoms out. Then, replace the pads. (Axxis pads are very good). WHen you have done both sides, pump the brakes several times to reset the pistons. Voila!!How to change rear brake pads on audi a4 -%26gt; P reg.?As above, but you don't need any special tools: A large screwdriver or long nosed pliers is all that's necessary.

  • How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?

Honda dealership tells me my rear pads will need attention soon which I later found out is common with this model. Front pads still have 8mm. They just didnt specify how soon? One month? Next oil change? I only have 22,000 miles on this car and yes I think it is a bit premature to be repacing rear pads especially before the front but I want to make sure I dont wait too long and then have them tell me I need new rotors too!!!!!How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Hard to say without knowing how much you drive a day or what your braking habbits are...

Hold on a minute, let me get out my magic ball. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honestly your under the %26quot;limits%26quot; and need to just replace both now. it may seem stupid, but honestly it needs to be done before you warp the rotor or ruin the surface.

you do know that your front brakes do 90% of the braking while the rear only does 10% correct? if it was true 50/50 the rear brakes would lock up everytime you hit the brakes. on older cars that have disfunctional brake proportioning valves, the rear tires will lock up when you hit the brakes hard.

Just replace em before it ends up costing you more. and just a tip, if you turn the rotor while your there, the brake pads will last longer. just make sure the rotor is not at its minimal thickness. the people at autozone/napa will have a micrometer to measure the thickness to verify if it can be turned or not.How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?22,000 miles is pretty early to be replacing brakes, but it really depends on your driving habits. We just did the brakes on my wife's car at 65,000 and it was just the front pads. There is no way to tell how long yours will last. An additional tip....take it to a good local brake shop for an inspection and a second opinion. I would not suggest going to Autozone or any similar parts store. The staff there are low paid people who know little about cars. All they know is how to sell parts. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honda considers 2 mm the time to replace brake pads. As for how many miles you have left, it depends on driving habits (like the others said), and how much city vs. highway driving, etc. You're OK for now but keep an eye on them.

    Repurposing brake pads?

I had the brake pads changed on my car and they gave me the old ones back - I am not sure where to get rid of them.......and I am a crafter and these are so sturdy-ish lookin - I was wondering if anyone has any creative, craftsy type ideas on how to repurpose brake pads? Dont worry about answering if your response is going to be something juvenile like %26quot;make it into a dildo%26quot; or something equally childish - it really is a waste of time and well.....lameRepurposing brake pads? You probably shouldn't as they may have asbestos in them. The backing of the pads is just shaped to the brake caliper and made from steel. It may be best to just throw them away. I do like the dildo idea thoughRepurposing brake pads?I know what you mean. They really are kinda cool, and after they are washed they are safe - no asbestos worries. It is the dust that is dangerous, not the pads.

Just a thought - the friction surface is readily carved to a depth that would let you wipe paint into the scribed areas, while the surrounding area is already smooth. From there, I hope your imagination is better than mine.Repurposing brake pads?I once made stick men out of bolt and nuts, with a big nut as a head, breathing apparatus and mini tank at the back.

These men all rested/stood on old brake pads. Friction bit at the bottom.

I used to have them in different positions etc, they were sprayed mainly matt black and I sold them at camden market for 15 quid each.

I sold thousands so there's a chance someone knows what I am talking about.

How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?

I have about 25,000 miles on the car which was new when I got it and Nissan is telling me I need to change my brake pads. I think they should last at least twice this long. I do a lot of city driving, but it's not hard braking. There are no signs that they are wearing out either such as a squealing noise. I'm curious how long brake pads last for other 2007 Altima owners.

ThanksHow long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?Brakes should be replaced when they are worn. The mileage does not matter, it depends on ho much of the pad is left.

City driving, even if you use the brakes gently, wears the pads much more quickly than highway driving.

In city driving you are using the brakes often, due to traffic lights and stop signs. When driving on the highway, you can go many miles without touching the brakes at all.

If you do not believe the dealer, have the brakes checked by an independent shop. You may want to have the independent shop do the repairs, seeing as they will most likely be a lot cheaper than the dealer. How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?you should call nissan and ask them they should know since they sold you the carHow long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?IT DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER

2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?

I bought the toyota brake pads for my car but did not have the dealership put them on because they wanted to charge $275.00 to put them on.

Is it really a lot harder to change these than the ones on the older model cars before the anti-lock breaking system and such. I went to the library and copied the pages from the mannual on how to do it. It does look like there are a lot of little parts to remove to get to the pads. I've never worked on cars at all before. I have a few friends that have worked on the older cars and changed brakes but they say I shouldn't try it on a 2005. What do you think? If I took my car to some random shop to have them put on how much do you think I should be charged for a shop to install them for me?2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?Hi,

just don't go to Midas, their job is to SELL, and rip you off.

a dealership is higher-priced, but there is a trust factor.

find someone you know who knows and trusts someone with a shop or works in a shop, maybe they'll let you watch and you can do it next time.

Got any warranties on the car? check the fineprint about who can do repairs.

    that's all i got

GOOD LUCK2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?Probably $80 to $120, but who knows, mechanics rip people off so bad, who knows what they will charge. Just call one of them and ask first.

I've had lots of cars over alot of years, and I never had any problem, never seen a 2005 so I don't know, but it can't be that hard, but if you never done it before, might take you some extra time.2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?Why don't you tell us what exactly the $275 price included.. did it also include new disc rotors?

No mechanic is stupid enough to quote $275.00 to fit already supplied brake pads... it's a 30 minute job!

If you know somebody who can change pads in a 1985 Corolla, then they can also change pads in a 2005 Corolla, it's the same job.

Having ABS, etc means nothing, doesn't change the simplicity of the job.

p.s: Please disreagard the people of low intelligence who claim all mechanics rip you off... sure, a small amount might, but in general, they are fair like any other trades person!2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?quite easy

as long as you have the correct tools.

a good garage should have you fixed for about $60...2005 Toyota Corolla needs new brake pads.?all you need is a 21mm for the wheels ,a 14 for the caliper ,a 17m for the caliper braket and a hammer to smack out the disc, lub the caliper pins alot with synthetic grease and its as simple as that

How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct?

I had my brake pads replaced and now when I press on the brakes it takes more effort to brake than before. The car does come to a complete stop, just takes more effort. Were they changed incorrectly, or could it be another problem? How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct?i own a repair shop, and they should be better than what they was before,if there not id go back and have them checked by the shop that did it,they should at least stop better ,with less effort on the pedal,it might pay to go back and have them checked, and be there when they take the wheel off and have them show you what they done to it,,after all it was your money that was spent on it,you have a right to see what was done,i always let my customers see what im doing to there car, this way they know exactly what was done to it,but id take it back if your having problems stopping it,good luck with it,and be care full,i hope this help,sHow do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct?your welcome.

How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct? It sounds like you need to adjust the back brakes to compensate for the front brake equalizer. Or you might have air in the lines. How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct?I have to wonder if there is the correct amount of brake fluid in system. Don't mess with this, take it back to the shop and have them check it.How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct?YOU COULD TAKE OFF A WHEEL AND LOOK AT THE PADS AND SEE IF THEY WERE CHANGED. ALSO YOU MIGHT SHOULD HAVE HAD THE ROTRIES TURNED WHEN THE PADS WERE CHANGED. NEXT TIME ASKFOR THE OLD PARTS BACK.How do I know if my brake pads were changed 100% correct? If you had new discs as well you may have crap pads, otherwise the pads need time to bed in, after fitting new pads, I always road test a customers car and do several very hard stops from 70 to bed them in before letting the customer drive off, however if there is a problem, if you do not have ABS that is , the rears will lock when you brake hard, which is nasty.

There is nothing obvious that can be done wrong while fitting new pads to reduce efficiency, fail completely yes but not reduce efficiency except leaving brake pipe clamps on perhaps.

Try a few hard stops and if the problem persists take the car back and complain.

  • Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?

I bought a used 1994 Pontiac Sunbird from a guy that I found on Craigslist for $1250. The car looked and ran good during my test drive. When we got back to his house to fill out the paperwork, he told me that the only problems was that it needed new tires and the gas hand floats. 3 days later I'm driving to school and I notice that the check oil light came on, I stopped, put a quart of oil in and it went off. 4 days later it happened again, so I call the guy and ask him about it and he told me that he %26quot;forgot%26quot; to mention that it had an oil leak and that it was an easy fix. Fast forward 2 weeks later I was drivng home and noticed that the car wasn't stopping like it should. The next day I go to a mechanic to get it checked out and found out that the back drum brakes was installed backwards and that the front rotors and pads was damn near wore down to nothing, resulting in an $800 dollar estimate and a $300 dollar repair (I just got the front redone). 3 weeks after the brake fiasco, I'm once again driving home and the car starts blowing out smoke from under the car and under the hood and just turns off in the middle of rush hour traffic on the freeway, thankfully I was able to coast it to the side. I had it towed to a GM dealership that was close by and was told the true colors of this car. First off the radiator had a hole in it and instead of fixing it, the old owner some how rigged the fan to stay on all the time to keep the engine cool, and the wires that he used got hot and melted through and the fan stopped working meaning the car couldn't cool itself. Secondly the oil cap in the engine that you unscrew to do oil changes was not properly screwed back on and it broke, letting oil spill on the engine. and lastly one of the spark plug wires was Duct-Taped (seriously) and spray painted black so it couldn't be detected, and the tape melted also causing it to fail. Now I don't know what to do, because I have not been able to go to class for 2 weeks now and i've had to use up almost all of my personal time at work because of this. So I want to know if I can sue the guy for not disclosing this before I paid for the car.Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Consult a lawyer for a professional opinion. I doubt that any of the laymen here would actually know what they are talking about. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Nope. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?No.

Sorry, but that is why buying guides all suggest you take any prospective car to a trusted mechanic, if you are not savvy enough to do it yourself, to give it a thorough inspection before you consider purchasing the vehicle. Consider it a very expensive lesson in car buying and look into buying a bus pass or bicycle.

As for school, if you wanted to go bad enough you'd find a way to get there. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car? What do you mean by a private dealer? Ordinarily any used car is sold %26quot;as is%26quot; unless it came with a written warranty and you have no legal recourse whatsoever. It's a case of buyer beware and it was your reponsibility to inspect the car before buying.

There might be one exception, that is if the person who sold you the car was a dealer posing as a private seller. That practice is known as %26quot;curbstoning%26quot;. It is illegal in most places and if you bought your car from a curbstoner there is a possibility that you can sue for fraud. Contact your states consumer protection agency and ask if there is anything you can do where this happened. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Not at all.

Just like how you did not do your homework in buying this car, you can not pin this on the seller for doing the same. It is your $1250, you decided that a test drive was all you needed to accept the car AS IS.

I am not sure what possesses anyone to think a 16-year old car %26quot;looked and ran good%26quot; on that alone...

Good luck. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Dude, you bought a 17 year old car. Cars are not like wine, they dont get better with age, they get worse. Buying a car for $1250 is like buying a TV at a garage sale for $10. If it stops working after 3 weeks would u sue the seller? You bought it AS-IS with no warranty whatsoever!!!!

This is why you need a mechanic to inspect the vehicle BEFORE u hand over ur cash. If u choose not to because ur a cheapskate then u took a gamble and lost.

Again, u bought a junk 17 year old car for $1250...... if u sue u will lose another day of work and court fees and the judge will scold u for being an idiot. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Three Words.

    Pre.

    Purchase.

Inspection. Can I sue a private dealer for selling me a bad car?Can you sue? ABSOLUTELY! In the US you can bring any civil dispute before a judge for a ruling.

    Will you win? HECK NO.

Everything that is wrong with the car today was either wrong when you bought it, or happened after. You could have spent the money for a professional opinion, but you didnt. You went on your on inspection and look at all the things you missed. Rather than being out $100, you are out $1250 + repairs.

Is there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?

I no longer have my dad around ( he always worked on my car) n now i need my brake pads changed..instead of charging someone to do it id like to do it myself although ive never woeked on my car..does anyone have any ideas on where i can learn online? Is there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?Yes, the Chilton or Hayes would have what you need, but be very cautious!! Brakes are fairly easy to fix for those in the know, but you could jeapordize your safety or someone else's with just one little mistake.

I suggest to let the expert do this one.

SorryIs there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?Good on ya! Glad to see you want to do something yourself.

Best bet- find a Chilton's or Hayne's manual for your car. It'll have a section on replacing the brake pads with step-by-step instructions that you can have right next to the car. And if you drop a wrench on the book, you won't be out $1500 for a new laptop.

The net is great, I wouldn't want to be without my computer. but sometimes a real printed book is better. Hey- use the net to find your manual.

Hope you have access to your dad's tools. Is there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?Google itIs there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?http://www.expertvillage.com/video-serie watch the whole series I was able to change my brakes no problem after watching this and I had never done it beforeIs there a place online where i can learn step by step how to put on brake pads?I would grab a Haynes or Chilton brake manual to help you out. Also be sure to have a small set of hand tools to take the brake caliper off and some brake lube to put on the back of the pads where they attach to the caliper and also the edge of the brake pad where they touch the metal clips that are located on the caliper bracket. That will eliminate squeals and sqeaks.

The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?

I bought a suzuki swift from a careful lady driver in september 2006. It was/still is in good condition. I recently had the tyres changed on the vehicle and when i was in the garage, an engineer pointed out that the front disc pads were looking worn down, he even suggested to have them replaced. I didn't have them replaced because my car was booked in the next day for a service. When the car went in for a service i mentioned to the people at the service desk to check the brakes as the pads were wearing down and have recenlty been squeaking. I just call the garage to enquire about how the service went and they said everything is fine. They said that the front break pads were ok. I am some what surprised and thought that they were going to be replaced. Any comments welcome!!The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?if the garage carried out a service on your car then checking the brake pads comes as standard on a service in my experience from working on cars some times the pads just need abit of cooper grease on them where they make contact with the calliper if you had your tyres fitted at a quick fit or one of them places then they are none for telling people that they needed new brake pads or shock absorbers that's how they make there money scum bags but I'm sure if the garage carryed out the service right they would of told you the brake pads needed changing its in there interest or if they was low they would normally tell you they need changing in a couple of thousand miles or so or in the next service which ever was closest hope this helps take care and remember that brakes are important so if worth getting a second look by someone else if they say they need doing get in touch with the garage that carryed out the service and ask why it wasn't picked up be careful out thereThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?the squeaking on the brakes is a sure sign of wear..get them replaced...the next thing is if you don't replace them the metal will be rubbing on the plates or drum.causing more expense later..ask the garage why they didn't change them and next time take the car to a garage that is prepared to listen to you..The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?on the calipers, there are two metal brackets that hold the pad itself, that is probably what is squeaking, they sell the lubricant at auto zone for 1.00 and is fairly easy to put on. about 5 minThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? Some break pads squeek. Usually the cheaper ones.Remember you have pads on the back as well that can squeek. I would ge a second opinion though. The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?Yes you definitely need to replace your brake pads. Because you didn't do it before you may even have to replace your rotors. Please have them checked out too. ASAP!!!!!The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?Sounds like there its dust on the brake lining. If they said the brake were fine then don't worry. It seems to me that maybe the original engineer may have wanted to make some money from you.The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?after mark break pads do squeek but should go away after a week or two also theres a warning bolt in most break pads to let you know when your pads need to be replaced take off the front tire and see how much pad is left and that will tell the whole storieThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? The squeak from disk brakes are usually caused by a dry metal plate which is placed behind the pad to stop stones and grit. Ask the garage (if they haven't done this) if they would put some copper grease between the plate and pad for you. It takes seconds with the wheels off so it should not cost more than a few pounds. The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?it might not be the brakes that are sqeeking it could be the suspenions or bearings that could b doing it when u brakeThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? If your brakes are making noise, they probably do need to be replaced. Under the actual pad material on them is what are called squealers. They look like rivets. They make noise to let you know your pads are worn out. If they wear down to bad they could start eating away at your rotor. And that can be expensive. I would have your pads changed.

How do i find out the min. percentage required on brake pads when im buying from a used car lot?

Im looking to buy a used car. But i noticed that one of the tires will need to be replaced. I want to know what the state minimums are on brake pads, tires and other things. So if i do buy a car and find out later that the (for example) the brake pads were almost gone, i could go back and make them change them out. I live in ArkansasHow do i find out the min. percentage required on brake pads when im buying from a used car lot?what you need to do is tell them you want new brake pads and tires put on the car before you buy it or they can forget the deal. How do i find out the min. percentage required on brake pads when im buying from a used car lot?If you have to ask, don't buy ANY car without having it checked by someone you trust. If the brakes are bad enough to be concerned, you should be able to tell from a test drive.

Side note: If the vehicle is sold 'AS IS' you generally can't make them fix anything. If they include a warranty, your remedy depends on the terms of the warranty. How do i find out the min. percentage required on brake pads when im buying from a used car lot? That's why you need to have a mechanic inspect the car prior to any purchase. Most used cars are sold as is, and if you don't find any problems before you buy them and make the purchase contingent (IN WRITING!) on fixing the problem they aren't obligated to fix it. There are no minimal requirements for used car sales, some dealerships/lots fix problems others leave it as is.How do i find out the min. percentage required on brake pads when im buying from a used car lot?You are better off to take the car to have it inspected by a certified mechanic. They can list any repairs needed or check for previous accidents. This is cheap insurance.

Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?

I own a 2006 Scion xA. I am needing to save money on the up-keep of the car. Is it possible to change the brake pads on your own? How difficult is it? Where would I find information and instructions for doing this job specific to my Scion xA?Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?Myself I'm a master auto tech., but yes you can change them yourself you will need a jack, 2 jack stands, Metric wrench set, 1/2in drive ratchet, and sockets. Once you remove the tire, and see the caliper, you have to spred open the caliper by hand. You can do this by inserting a flat tiped screwdriver into the opening of the cal.between the back brake pad and the rotor now pry it open until it stops. Do this on both sides. when you are finished the job befor you start the car depress the brake pedel several times until the pedel is normal again. Hope this helps you out.Is it easy to replace my own brake pads? There would be many forums that could give you instructions on doing this. It's not really a hard job, but it will take a little while and may be confusing if you've never done a brake job before. Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?If you select the proper metric tools: (1/2 shallow well sockets and a 12' and 16%26quot; ratchet, heavy dead blow hammer, never seize, 4 1/2 right angle grinder and coarse zerconia flap wheels.) No cheap Chinease tools for this job. It will eat em' alive. S%26amp;K or Craftsman is a good choice. You must be familiar with all the hydraulics and mechanical slider pins the job is %26quot;duck soup.%26quot; You'll need a floor jack and jack stands also.

It's best to purchase a Haynes Repair manual for your car. You can order them from any NAPA or Carquest automotive store. You may chose to go to a local library and sign out a Motors, Haynes or Chiltons big book and soak in detailed information and pictures or your particular braking system. Toyota's have outstanding brake pads that should last 60,000 + miles. It's important to replace the brake pad shim kits also.

  • With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?

    http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery-turbo/33715-turbo-changing-brake-pads-video.htm

This video shows how to change brake pads, but here's my question. My dad knows how to change them, but he's afraid to do it with cars with ABS systems on them, fearing he'd somehow ruin it. Is there any difference? If so, could you link me to a video, or just tell me?With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Remember to have your brake fluid changed every 2-3 years. Other than that, the pads are pretty much the same. Uswe ONLY the genuine brake fluid for your particular car found at your dealership. NEVER mix different brands of brake fluid together. Disaster follows, on down the road! With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Depends on what kind of vehicle we're talking about. Early automotive applications of ABS would have a reserve pressure. That would be the ABS accumulator. Such accumulators are designed to hold a high PSi in the system. Red flag's up here. Follow all warnings and recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer. Especially when performing brake work.

Best wishes and stay safe. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Explain to your dad that the ABS system is a sensor and ring attached to the hub - it has no bearing on the actual calipers and brake pads - which are generally the same parts on any specific vehicle whether the vehicle has ABS or not. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?abs systems have a sensor usually located somewhere on the axle or on the spindle /mounting area. usually has a single wire attached to it. as long as you do not damage this or bend it etc. the procedure for changing pads is the same. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?No difference. The calipers themselves don't have any ABS components in them.

Changing some wheel discs might affect the wheel speed sensors, but even these are quite simple. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?It doesn't look any different. You will see the sensor, but it is inboard from where the pads are.

Changing the back brake pads on a BMW 318i 1999 E46?

i need to change the back brake pads on my car, how easy is it to do and how do u do it?Changing the back brake pads on a BMW 318i 1999 E46?BMWs have used 4 wheel disc brakes since at least 1985, so you don't need to worry about all that stuff concerning drums and shoes. It will be the same as the front, with one small exception. On some cars when replacing rear pads, you need to screw the caliper piston back in. You will need a special tool for this, but any auto parts store will let you rent or borrow one. You cannot just squeeze it back in like the fronts.

The only drum and shoes you will find are if you want to replace or check the parking brake. The rear disc comes off and inside of it is the drum and shoes for the parking brake.Changing the back brake pads on a BMW 318i 1999 E46?if you have the right tools and are mechanically minded, then it is not too bad a job to do.you need to jack the car up,(ensure you use axle stands for safety),remove the wheel.you will see one or two screws holding the drum on. remove these and take the drum off.if it wont come off,tap all round it gently with a hammer and this should release it.when drum is off, take the large spring out of the hole at the top of the brake shoe.repeat with the lower spring, noting which way they are inserted.also note how the fork is situated between the opposing shoes(a piece of metal at the bottom of the brake shoes).you will see two small metal cups with springs below them in the middle of each shoe.use a pair of pliers to push these in and twist to remove them, careful not to lose them.prise the shoes out of the piston grooves at the top of the hub,and lift them out of the bottom grooves.replacement is the opposite. if you don't fancy this yourself, go to a garage.brakes will feel slightly spongy for a while afterwards, this is normal till the shoes 'bed in 'properly. hope this helps.Changing the back brake pads on a BMW 318i 1999 E46?There is no special tool used to push the caliper pistons back in to the caliper as noted. They are the same as the front. you need a 7 mm allen key to remove the sliders and a pair of mulitgrips to push the piston in, a large flat blade screw driver to remove the anti rattle clip. Dont forget to change the pad wear sensor as well of the dash lamp will not go out.

How to make sure brake pads are properly installed, 2005 toyota corolla?

Im first time brake change on this car, im replacing the rotors and pads, but i see a clip that goes somehow on ine of the pads. Just want to make sure how to do this. How to make sure brake pads are properly installed, 2005 toyota corolla?the clip is likely the anti rattle clip or its a brake squeeler. the antirattle spring or clip helps stop chatter of the pads. it is often held in place by the pads. it is usually visible on top of the caliper. if its brake pads your doing be sure to clean and use the packet recomended for disc brake quiting as well. also even though new or turned clean the braking surfaces with brake clean on the rotors. there is often a film of protective oil placed on the surface to stop surface rust from forming durring shipping or storage.

How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?

Whats with this people wanting to change my brake disc of a 2 year car ?

I have a Toyota and I change the brake this like one time, and it have 14 years (2002)

I understood that the brake disc deteriorate if you dont change your brakes pads on time, when is needed

I have only change my brake pads on time and was on time, as soon as the light sensor went off, I change the pads

Now the sensor is on and I went where I bought the car to buy my pads but it seems they want me to change both front brake discs, so I went to another recognize BMW part shop and they told me I need to change the four of them!

I want second opinion on this cause I dont think its that neccesary or it deteriorate that fast

With your opinion I'll check again in a particular mechanics and see if Im a need of new brake disc

Thanks in advanceHow come I have to change my BMW brake disc already? You really must not have driving your Toyota that much or did much braking in that vehicle, or your driving habits have changed with the BMW over the Toyota.

My wife's 2003 Corolla needs a brake job about every 18 months. She drives in very hilly areas and applies her brakes more frequently.

I drive a 2004 Pontiac Vibe (the same as a Toyota Corolla with a different upper shell). Have not had to replace the brakes yet and last inspection still had 50% of my brake pad left.

Brake pad replacement depends on your driving habits and braking frequency. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion. (It rarely ever does), but not sure how you got 14 years on a single set of brake pads unless you didn't drive that much.

Ok, your talking about the disk rotors, I misunderstood your question. These days manufactures do make rotors out of cheaper metals to minimize brake noise. You can purchase rotors made from higher quality metals that last longer from an auto parts store. Just ask them for the higher quality rotors.

Most manufacturer's have a minimum thickness that is recommended for the rotors as well. These days they don't make rotors as thick to reduce weight and allow for better cooling of the brake area. This unfortunately amounts to having to change the rotors a bit more frequently. From personal experience this is typically every other brake job for the original OEM brake rotors. (ie you can get them turned(machined) once, but typically not twice)

Next time you have the brake rotors replaced, ask for the higher quality rotors. They are more expensive (typically by 50% more), but they will keep you from having to replace them as frequently. How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already? Many new cars need complete brake overhaul after two years, when I first heard of this it surprised me as well. I think it has to do with the cars sitting on lot for long time and actually starting to rust and detoriate just sitting there. You would never think to pop off the tires and check out brakes before buying on a new car, but maybe you should. How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?BMWs are heavier, tires are wider, wheels larger and speeds greater which puts stress on the braking system.Brake repair produces the greatest profits and people do not resist because it is a safety issue.Air conditioning in Florida is a must so people bend over and accept the price for repairs. You could do the work yourself if you were the ultimate repairing machine,if mechanics make $50 an hour then every hour you spend under the hood is a pay raise.Get rid of those projector headlights before damage is done to your chassis and the loot fenced on eBay.How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?if the pads wernt grinding and there was not plusating of the brake petel or shaking the rotor its fine. normaly when u have your brake pads replaced they want to replace ur rotors.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the front brake pads on an 04 Mitsubishi Endeavor? It's really annoying. I put in new brake pads, but I didn't change the sensors and I'm not going to because they are stupid expensive for a feature thats pretty unneeded. Is there any way to keep this light off for good? It comes on every time I turn on the car and I have to hit the arrow up to turn it to something else.

Also, are those sensors the possible reason for the annoying chirp I hear while driving? It sounds like its coming from the wheel in the front but the rotors are new, brake pads are new and everything is in sound shape yet it makes the most annoying chirp ever. Could this be because the car thinks it needs new brake pads so its telling me to change by chirp and by stupid light on the dash? How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?put a piece of black electrical tape over the light or buy the sensors. The chirp could be a number of things.

Ghetto fag? lmao. You're the idiot complaining about the light and you know you need the sensors replaced...which will fix the light..but of course you want a way around it....No not ghetto but u sound like a fag!How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?yes it all could be because of bad sensor you might want to find out which fuse controls the light and maybe pull the light good luckHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?pull the fuse, or just cut the wire, ya dont need it anyways, you can pretty much tell when u need new brake padsHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?it also could be a wheel bearing too.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??

I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX by the way. The last time the brakes were changed was shortly before I bought the car from a private party last April of 2007. I haven't noticed problems stopping but then again I don't want to wait until they get to be paper thin to replace them either. I'd like to keep myself and anyone in my car safer with brake pads changed on a regular schedule just like changing my oil and filter. Thanks!I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??the fronts really do most of work i'd change every 10,000 miles do the back at same time hard to do... maybe 1/2 hour each wheel. do fronts first! get a friend to helpp.. it's good for convesation at least!I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Hi, brakes change will depend on your braking habit. Hard braking means you will wear them out more. Gentle and gradual braking will conserve your brake pads. You can drive 100,000miles and hit your brakes once and they will be as good as new.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??City driving with lots of stop and go will wear brakes more than open highway driving, so the type of driving will play a part in the wear of your brakes.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??For disc brakes, you can see the brake linings on the brake pads and I will consider changing them in pairs on the wheels when the linings wore down to about 1/16th of an inch. You can still have effective braking with them still.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Your vehicle drive train will also wear brakes more. If you have a front-wheel drive car, the front brakes will tend to wear faster due to having stop heavier momentum, likewise the rear brakes for rear-wheel drive. Take a look at the brake pads for best gauge to replacing them.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??If there is no damage other than normal wear, they should last at leat 10 thousand miles. and possibly even more i have 15 000 on mine. and i want to replace thms soon. they are allright they are just worn down too low to suit me. This has been 5 years for me. That would be about 3000 miles a year for me.I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Most if not all cars with disc brakes have a little metal plate which rubs against the disc when you are getting to the stage where they need to be replaced, the wear indicator will make a screeching sound when it's time to replace the pads, my last set of pads lasted me 100,000 km's.I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Disc brake pads have a sensor built in on them. It all depends on how much you drive your car. If your discs are smooth, your pads will last for a very long time. Listen for a scraping sound that will usually go away when you hit the brakes.I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Have your tires rotated on a regular basis by someone that knows what they are doing. Each time they (or you), can visually inspect the pads and know how much pad you have leftI have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??A good breakpad should last up to 100,000 miles.I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??On all autos, with disk brakes, the brake pad has a flexible metal tab, that creates a %26quot;skreching/rubbing%26quot; noise when the thickness of the pad becomes unsafe. In most cars, the front wheels/brakes will wear faster than the rear pads. The amount that the car is used, whether in the city with a lot of stop and go traffic, or in the country, with long open driving condition, will determine the frequency of need to %26quot;re-do your brakes%26quot;. Of importance, if you do hear the sound of scrapping/rubbing noise, if allowed to go too long, will cause your brake rotors to wear abnormally. Making additional cost of brake repair. Usually when detected early, changing the pads frequently will prolong the life of your rotor, and even the calipers holding the pad will last longer. Your oil, and engine maintenance will be required a lot more often than the need to replace your brake pads. Most auto service centers, will provide a courtesy walk around inspection of your car when you take it in for your routine oil change service. A sign of wear of your brakes, is sometime seen as a black dust/powder showing through your wheels.
